1. Tell us why, how and when you started crafting?

I started crafting when I was a little child. I learnt how to crochet when I was 6 en ever since then I like making ‘ things ‘.  As a child I made a lot of clothes for my dolls and Barbie dolls, crocheted a lot of small bags for everyone around me, stitched a lot of small doilies for my grandma, I made bracelets, I also liked spinning wool, ….  Later I pimped my clothes, knitted sweaters, sew dresses and started to make my own jewellery…

Actually it started with my parents. Especially my mother. She was very creative too and taught me a lot.

2. Why do you love crafting?

Because it gives me a good feeling that I have an object, made by myself. It gives me a proud feeling: I did it myself !

It is also relaxing ( uhm… if everything goes as planned…  It can be very frustrating too sometimes ;) ) and fun doing.

3. What is your favourite type of craft?

I really don’t have a favourite!

4. What is the most pretty thing you have made?

Oh… That’s difficult…   my yellow cowl I guess…

5. Tell us what makes your crafts special?

The fact that I made them ;-).

Seriously : I don’t know if they are that special.

But they are made with pleasure, and that’s what it is all about for me…

6. What do you use for inspiration?

I get inspired on the internet, but also just around me in my every-day-life.

And the more I make, the more inspiration I get… My head is constantly filled with ideas, it never stops!

7. Would you like to show us were you do your craft magic?

Mostly just on my dining table or in my sofa. In summertime in my small garden.

9. What sort of crafting would you still love to try out?

So much !

Silver clay, painting on porcelain, maybe if I had the room and the tools for it even making some little furniture and home decoration, making my own glass beads…

10. Have you got any advice for those who would love to start crafting?

Just do it for fun!

Don’t compare yourself with others : what you make is ok!

Start with simple things, than you don’t get frustrated.

Don’t be a perfectionist, like what you make!

Easter Brunch

Back when I was young we always had an Easter brunch. Sitting down at the breakfast table together, the table all set with eggs, croissants and other delicious treats. So this year I decided I wanted to have an Easter brunch. Extra special is the fact that this is to be Marijn’s  first Easter!

So I started plotting and planning. The table had to be perfectly decorated and the food delicious. I decided to make some cupcakes with white-chocolate cream, eggs in puff pastry, scones and trifle. Other than that I had various rolls, croissants, pate and smoked salmon.

To help me out with the preparations, my friend Wouter helped me make some decorative Easter baskets and name cards. Below a short tutorial how to make these little baskets.
A fun craft for children!

(Easter) baskets

1.  Take a squire piece of paper and fold it so that you will get 16 little squires.

2. Cut the corner squires in on one side (see picture)

3. Fold the sides up and use some glue or tape to stick them together. Now you have the base of the basket.


4. Use a long thin piece of paper to make the handle of the basket.

5. Decorate the basket (I like to use stickers!! You are never too old to play with stickers!!)

6. Fill the basket. In the case of my Easter basket I used chocolate Easter eggs and a ‘Giant Easter Bunny’ (or so the label said XD).

The name cards were placed on the plates and this is the result of my Easter brunch table!!

Home Sweet Home

We had a lovely Easter Weekend together with the ones we love.

Being with them is the ultimate feeling of Home!

And eating chocolatecake was the sweet part of todays Home Sweet Home.

Easter Lunch

Yesterday we had a blast with the children and made a delicious Easter lunch.

We already made creative Easter baskets for the children to take home but we wanted something relatively easy for the children to make to decorate the Easter lunch table. 

So we found some Easter basket drawings at a supermarket and when all the children arrived we started with this project. Even we pitched in and drew our own Easter basket. Drawing is very therapeutic we reckon. It’s a shame most of us stop drawing when we grow up.

After this relaxing hour of drawing, cutting and gluing we and the children enjoyed the sun outside while some of the children helped one of the teachers setting the table inside for lunch. The children also helped making sausage rolls. We just used cocktail sausages and puff pastry sheets which our little helpers folded and then baked in the oven and also speared cheese, sausage and veggies on to a skewer for a healthy and yummy treat.

But before we sat down to enjoy our lunch we all painted our cooked eggs in lovely shades and colours.  

Now we were ready to sit down and eat all the lovely things we had made together. We also had buns and chicken filet, cheese and lettuce and our regular spreads.

The day became even better when the Easter Bunny arrived and hid chocolate eggs outside and the children were allowed to find them after lunch.

To top this day we painted the children’s faces so they looked like Easter Bunnies themselves and we hopped and skipped the rest of the day, away......

1. Tell us why, how and when you started crafting?

I have been crafting all my life! I grew up in a house where my mother’s sewing machine and knitting machine always stood on the corner of our dinner table. I loved to draw and craft as a kid and when I was a bit older I started to sew clothes for my Barbie dolls (by hand and not so pretty). As I grew up I never lost the love for crafting!

2. Why do you love crafting?

I love to be busy with my hands and make pretty things. It’s great to see something evolve and turn out exactly as you imagined it to be.  And if not, you know how to do it better next time! I also love to experiment and try out new techniques or make up new (sewing)patterns.

3. What is your favourite type of craft?

It’s difficult to choose! I think I go for sewing because you get the quickest result. But I also love crochet and making jewelry.

4. What is the most pretty thing you have made?

I love almost everything I make and I try to make everything as pretty as possible. But I think I’m the most proud of the Tipi-playtent I made for my eldest son. It was a lot of work and a lot of struggle with large pieces of fabric in a very hot attic in the summer. But it turned out great and the boys can play in it for years to come.

5. Tell us what makes your crafts special?

I use a lot of old and recycled materials and fabrics like old clothes, sheets, tablecloths and buttons. That’s why my creations are always unique! I also love to combine unusual fabrics and prints, to make my products special. I don’t like to copy other people’s designs.

6. What do you use for inspiration?

I get my inspiration from a lot of things! I cut out inspiring pictures from magazines and keep them in scrapbooks. I also love the new website Pinterest.com. It’s like a digital scrapbook and I’m beginning to get really addicted to it!

And I get a lot of inspiration from nature, other people’s houses, watching television, reading blogs, so really everything I do and see!

7. Would you like to show us were you do your craft magic?

Here’s my craft corner in our attic. I have a big sewing table and some cupboards to store my fabrics, yarn, paper and other supplies. It’s becoming quite full actually ;)

8. Would you like to share/include a fun craft tutorial with us?

This is a ‘golden oldie’ from my blog: make little giftbags from coffeefilter bags:

- Draw a line left and right from the bottom of the coffeefilter with a pencil
- Sew along these lines with your sewing machine
- Cut away the parts left and right to the stitching
- And you’re done! You can embellish the giftbag with a stamp if you want

- Instead of sewing, you can also use Masking Tape to close the sides of the giftbags!

9. What sort of crafting would you still love to try out?

I would like to try screenprinting or printing on fabric with stamps or stencils. To make my own fabric designs, that would be so cool!

10. Have you got any advice for those who would love to start crafting?

Just do it! Don’t be scared to make mistakes because you learn from them. Try new things and have fun!

Home Sweet Home

I hope my Home Sweet Home is still lovely on this Tuesday morning. I just did not make my Monday post.

Yesterday was a long and hectic day. We both were so extremely tired that we, after two hours of coming home, went straight into bed,  to sleep!

So with that in mind I thought it was appropriate to show you some corners of the bedroom. This time my side of the bed.
