Part two: Texel, Babyshower and Friends

Diaper Cake ingredients:

• two baking trays
• diapers ( we had 32 but we had a shortage!)
• ribbon
• elastic bands
• small presents
• a plate

First we started arranging our diapers into two baking trays. The top one slightly smaller than the bottom one to create the cake look.

We started of wrong as we just added the diapers without having a clear idea how to arrange the diapers. As you can see on the picture above it looked untidy!

In the end we decided that the closed ends should be visible and the open ends of the diapers tucked in by the other diapers for a cleaner look. Like so:

When you are finished arranging your diapers your left with a hole in the middle. You can either stuff this hole with a rolled up diaper or a gift. We added a bottle of wine.

Then we realiszd we had a problem. Because we had enough diapers to make two layers but the bottle was too long to be able to cover up with our two layers. Stuck on a Island without a car makes it a bit hard to drive to a supermarket so we had to improvise! We started of covering the bottle with a rolled diaper.

 Then we secured to two layers with two elastic bands.

We used ribbon to conseal the elastic bands.

Then we added the second layer and by pulling the second layer up we solved our diaper shortage problem. It wasn't the most pretty solution but the only one we had!

Now for the fun part! Lift the cake onto a plate and add your gifts!

Sure! It isn't the most pretty and tidy Diaper Cake....BUT we were and are  proud of our first Diaper Cake!

Especially because we did not have enough.

At this point Ilse and I decided to carry on making and decorating the house for Berbara's arrival the next day so we did not have to rush the next morning,

We made some cute onesies!

And decorated the house with flags, a banner and cute baby boy clothes.

At 1am it was time to sleep. We hoped Berbara would love this surprise Baby Shower party tomorrow morning!

Part one: Texel, Babyshower and Friends

I had the most wonderful weekend with my dear friends, Ilse and Berbara.

We met in Denmark in 2005! We all lived there for different reasons but found each other and became really good friends. The group is complete with Gerda. She still lives and studies in Denmark. And I personally miss her very much. Especially when I watch the silly videos we made.....

But Ilse, Berbara and I try to see each other as often as possible. We don't live in the same city anymore. In Copenhagen we met several times a week! We were each other’s friends, family, trusties. We had each other.....and that I still miss every day.

But how joyous to see each other after a few months. Ilse works at ecomare on the Island of Texel. And Berbara and I planned a visit to see Ilse and the island.

Berbara is pregnant and Ilse and I wanted to do something special for her. As Berbara is due in a month’s time she decided not to have a sleep over. Very wise because the Island doesn’t have a hospital. This made it even easier for us to plan a surprise teeny-weeny baby shower for her!

So it was a weekend where Berbara and I visited Ilse. A baby shower weekend for Berbara and a teensy holiday for me!

I have so many pictures to show so I will post it in three parts.

Part one: Texel

I packed my bags and loaded them in the car on Friday morning. I had to work but as soon as I waved the children goodbye I set off to Den Helder with Husband. He brought me to the boat because I went on a little adventure to Texel!

The boat ride only takes 20 minutes but it’s so much fun!

When I arrived on the Island I was picked up by Ilse and her neighbor who was so kind to pick me up with the car! I was so glad because my bags were so heavy!

When we arrived at Ilse’s crib I got an good old tour of the house.

Ilse lives in a old pig stable named: Biggenstein
HOW CUTE!

The views around her house are amazing! Beautiful farm land! Stretched out as far as the eye can see. Immensely pretty! 

We talked over a lovely rice dinner and toasted on a lovely weekend together! After dinner we cleared the table to make room for the Diaper Cake we were going to make for Berbara as the Baby Shower gift....

1.    Tell us why, how and when you started crafting?

About 3 years ago I discovered that I was very handy on a Sewing Machine and from that day on I started sewing things and I also discovered that I liked to be creative in many ways, such as my Blog en creating little treasures.

2. Why do you love crafting?

I love to create something from scratch. To take a piece of fabric and sew a wonderful skirt for myself or my little friend Sanya. Or take an old postal bag and some fabric and make an amazing messenger bag! I just love to make stuff, it gives me very good feeling.

3. What is your favourite type of craft?

That’s a hard one, I must say that I enjoy making things like skirts and bags on my Sewing Machine. I also love to take a piece of clothing and remodel it to a whole other piece of clothing.

I just love fabrics and making things out of them!

4. What is the most pretty thing you have made?

Gosh, if you had asked me what the most ugly thing was I ever made hahaha :-)

I have to say, I do love one of my Apple Bags I made for an old colleague. A beautiful tote bag.

5. Tell us what makes your crafts special?

Ooooh Humble me...

I don’t think that my crafts are that special. But if I really have to give an answer, I think they are special because I made them with a lot of love!

6. What do you use for inspiration?

I love to browse Blogs, it gives me inspiration to create. Not to copy things but simply to give me the urge to go up to my attic and create. I enjoy sitting in my little crafting corner and dream about little projects. My crafty corner inspires me to make things.

7. Would you like to show us were you do your craft magic?

Off course! I started sewing in my living room, I had to tidy things up every time I was done! So I asked my dearest husband to make my own little Crafty corner on the Attic! I have to share it with my washing machine and my hot iron but it’s my own little place ;-)

8. Would you like to share/include a fun craft tutorial with us?

Gosh, I would love to but I’m not really into tutorials. I tried to make them al lot of times but it turned out to be a mess which not even I could understand. 

9. What sort of crafting would you still love to try out?

I would love to learn how to knit! I can sew, I can crochet but I never learned how to knit!

10. Have you got any advice for those who would love to start crafting?

Just do it! Everybody can craft, everybody can create! Just do your thing! Follow your heart!

Do not think that your creations are not worthwhile! They are!

The cat/love of my life.....

Jess died, the 16th of April 2012. He became 20 years old. He is and always will be the cat/love of my life.....
